A training workshop in Nablus: Integrating gender issues into media and solution journalism.
Witness Center for citizen rights and Community Development conducted a training workshop with WATAN Academy media training & Capacity Building, on Monday, 15/8/2022 entitled “Integrating Gender Issues in Media and Solutions based Journalism”, which falls under the initiative of “Women Lead” through NASEEJ Regional Project co-funded by Oxfam and the EU. The training targeted 20 media students from Al-Quds Open University, Nablus branch.
The training workshop lasted for three consecutive days, aimed to raise the student’s capacities in gender-sensitive media coverage of gender-based violence cases through Solutions based Journalism.
The solutions based Journalism is an approach based on presenting a problem in a professional way and then searching for solutions to this problem, then presenting it to the public opinion, in order to raise hope away from the daily negative accumulation of news that we witness in agencies and media.
The training discussed several topics with gender perspective, acknowledging the students with GBV concept, introducing students to gender-sensitive media, analyzing media discourse from a gender perspective, addressing the gaps of gender-based violence in the media and journalism, learning mobile journalism, writing and recording audio clips, following up montages of press stories and uploading materials on social networking sites and news sites, and finally practical training on solutions based journalism.
