“Witness Center Launches a Guidance Manual for Addressing Gender-Based Violence Issues.”
“The Witness Center for Citizen Rights and Community Development held an event on Thursday, January 26, 2023, to launch a guidance manual for media institutions and media graduates in universities to address gender-based violence issues. The manual was prepared by the National Academy for Media Training and Capacity Development as part of the Regional Weave project, funded jointly by Oxfam and the European Union under the “Leading Women” initiative.
The event was attended by representatives from the National Academy for Media Training and Capacity Development, media college students, civil society organizations, women’s institutions, and volunteers from the Witness Center. Mr. Ahmed Jaroushi, the Projects Manager at the Witness Center, emphasized that through the project implementation, the center was able to reach more than 120 Palestinian women, 15 female journalists, and more than 50 media students from various colleges. He expressed his confidence in the youth’s capabilities in addressing these issues.
During the event, discussions were held on the topics covered in the manual, its importance, dissemination strategies, and a summary of the initiative’s work over the past year. Yara Thouqan, the coordinator of the Leading Women project, stated that this manual represents the first step towards guiding the educational system to address gender-based violence issues in media colleges in Palestinian universities and incorporate them into university courses. She emphasized the Witness Center’s commitment to delivering this manual to media students and Palestinian journalists.
Attendees expressed their admiration for the manual and the importance of the issues it addresses. They called for its dissemination across all institutions and universities to raise awareness among students about the topics covered, pledging to make efforts to spread it widely.”
