Witness centre “Shahid” monitors the role of the media in promoting civil peace

Witness Center “Shahid”  for Citizen Rights and Community Development and the Society for Defenders of Human Rights and Public Freedoms concluded the activities of the Palestinian Observatory for Verification and Professional Control – Kashif, within the project “The Palestinian National Coalition to Promote Civil Peace and National Unity” in partnership with the Pal-Think Foundation for Strategic Studies and the REFORM Foundation and funded by the government Swiss. Where the team of media researchers and journalists monitored the content posted on social media in Palestine, including news, information, reports, and pictures related to the spread of the Coronavirus, and verified the extent of its credibility and observance of publishing ethics and not misleading the public or stirring up trends that threaten civil peace, especially bullying of the infected or suspected of being infected by Virus. On the other hand, the team of legal researchers at the Association for Defenders of Human Rights and Public Freedoms clarified the legal perspective in the published content in addition to holding an interactive workshop with journalists and the media that took place in Tulkarm governorate on “The role of the media in promoting civil peace in light of the Corona pandemic.” The goal of the meeting is to find out the causes of bullying and defamation towards Corona patients, and the consequences for that. The dinner dealt with the role of the media in promoting civil peace in light of the Corona pandemic, as the media and legal point of view on this issue was clarified, due to the presence of bullying, defamation and traitors of Corona. Then the media team provided the correct information about the visitors who provided their names and showed the correct information on issues related to the following groups: Coronavirus, people with special needs, workers inside, decision-makers, women.
